For Labor Day, we went to spend time with family. At least that is what we think of them! The Guthrie's used to live across the street from us until Mr. G lost his mother to a heart attack and acquired his boyhood home, the Guthrie Farm. This home and the 400 or so acres that goes with it have been in the family for well over 100 years. It is beautiful country!
This blog post is a terribly poor representation of just how beautiful it is out at the Guthrie Farm. I'm so disappointed in myself that I didn't get more of the WHOLE experience. I've just discovered, i didn't even get a pic of the outside of the barn! Which is one of my favorite places when I go to the Guthrie's farm.
All I have are some pics of the inside. So, we'll start with the details....
An old antique chair. It's missing it's bottom half, but how exquisite!
Tanner and Colin sitting in front of one of the cow stables.
This would be a great photo spot if only they were something besides BOYS! Goofy.
The upstairs. This is once where the hay was stored. Large and spacious. LOTS of room for play. And hay!
Some of the floor boards have become loose or weakened over the years, so we are very careful where we walk. You can see how large the room is in the picture. There in the middle towards the front of the building is a pile of VERY old hay and a handful of VERY old items. There in that pile of hay, is where the magic always happens.
See it here? A few old chairs, a few old cups, glass ware, silverware, pots and pans, and some treasured books each with grandpa Guthrie's name stamped in them. The magic of "HOUSE".
Nevermind that EVERYTHING here is covered in 2 inches of dirt and dust. We well assume there are bat, mice, and owl droppings here too. Mom just says a silent prayer that we won't fall through the floor, fall off the floor, or catch some rare deadly disease amongst the dust particles. Then we all step back in time 100 years and relish the barn.
Lexie showing me her CTR ring!
The kids swatting the dust particles the see dancing in the sun's rays in the old pig pen.
Mr. Guthrie just put down a new driveway with lots of gravel. Colin's heaven.
Thank you Guthrie family for having us for Labor Day! We love you!
