High Adventure Camp

Derek called me at the end of his first night with the scouts at high adventure camp. Somehow, they needed another car and it was the perfect excuse for us to go down and join the fun.

They were staying at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. Here are some of the scouts!

The night before I arrived, they had made navajo tacos and Derek had asked me to make some dough for the scone portion of the meal. I made up some Lion House Rolls dough and put it in the freezer. Derek took it with him frozen and by the time they got around to cooking, the dough was perfect and ready for frying. Boy were those boys raving about their meal! Since I knew I was going to be there for dinner time the next evening, I brought with me the makings for dutch oven peach cobbler. Between the navajo tacos and the peach cobbler, I think I have been permanently invited to attend all high adventure camps!

Here are Lexie and Colin the next morning at breakfast. Poor Lexie, she has rings under her eyes. I'll be honest, I don't feel too bad about those rings. She gave us a doosey of a time trying to get her to go to sleep the night before. I could tell it was going to be a fun time when I saw the mischeviousness in her eyes as she teasingly pushed Tanner on my bed while we were getting dressed. "Tanner, let's wrestle!" she said. As I left the tent, I told her if I caught her out of bed she would sleep in the car buckled into her carseat. (I'm such a mean mom.) Not knowing my threat, Derek checked on the kids a few minutes later. When he reported to me Lexie was out of bed, I told him what her punishment was. He went back a few minutes later to find her on top of Tanner trying to pin him down! (Gotta love a gal whose driven!) Derek promptly pulled her out of the tent and buckled her into her carseat. Then he sat on the back bumper and waited. After 5 minutes, she was out cold so he pulled her out of her carseat and put her back in the tent.

Here's Colin with his very most FAVORITE person!
We went to HaHa Tonka State Park to see an old castle ruin.

Life couldn't be SWEETER for this little guy. He on his dad's back!

Here's the view from the castle.

We had a great time! A big thanks to the scouts for letting us join in on their fun!

Quack!

Look who moved in! Well, not quite "in", but we've been finding them right out side our front door frequently in the mornings. We're about a block from a lake in our neighborhood, so it's just a short jaunt over for them. I'm not sure if they like the tall grasses, or the abundance of bugs, but for some reason, they've taken a liking to our little home. Welcome little guys! We're delighted you've come to visit!

Poof!

Now that I have my paper goods back in an organized manner, (a story coming soon) I have a few cards I have been meaning to do. Here are two that I did over the last couple of days.

A sister at church taught us how to make strawberry freezer jam so this card is for her. I had been wanting to use my rubber stamps and this was a great opportunity.

Here's the inside.

This card is for a family at church who are just finishing with residency in Radiology. They invited us to a dinner party, but we couldn't attend, so I thought of this card as a way to share in their celebration. (The graduating resident keeps a clean shaved head, so this guy is a perfect fit.)

"Somehow those med school and residency years seem to disapear before our eyes. Here's to some magical years ahead!"

Service with a Smile

Tomorrow is our next quarterly Enrichement meeting. The theme is SERVICE! Our ward has an annual tradition of a service auction (which we will do), but I have a few things up my sleve in addition. When I created this poster to advertise this event, I found this picture of Ruth on the lds.org website. I just loved it because it shows service in sisterhood. Ruth became who she did because she served. I have thought from time to time about what I have to offer my posterity. Ruth left behind a heritage of service. Its effects were tremendous. And inspired. I can't imagine anything greater to leave as a heritage to my posterity! She is a wonderful example to me.

If you are reading this and you live in the Bear Creek Ward boundaries, I can't wait to see you tomorrow night! Don't be late, we'll start on time!
